225 Exam Chair Base Function Test and Repair

This illustration shows only the fuses and connections that affect the Base Up / Down function.

This illustration shows the Base limit switches, the serviceable components of the Base actuator, and the fuses on the Motor Control PC board.
Use the table below to isolate the Base Function Component malfunction.
Anytime an Overtravel Limit Switch is detected open, both Base and Back functions are deactivated.

Clean / lube actuator threads. Remove any debris from base slides. Do not lubricate base slides. Replace actuator if necessary. |
Motor runs, but chair does not move. |
Inspect / replace motor coupler. |

Check Motor Control PC board fuses F1 and F2. |
Check limit switch wire connections. |

Preparation for Base Actuator Test
1.Disconnect power to the chair.
2.Disconnect Back actuator connection J1.
3.Move Base wire connection J2 to Back PC Board connection J1.
4.Connect power to chair.
Perform the Base Actuator Test
1.Using the hand / foot control, press and hold Back Up button briefly.
2.Using the hand / foot control, press and hold Back Down button briefly. Did Base move Up and Down? If yes, actuator is OK. If no, replace actuator.
Reconnecting Actuator Connections
1.Reconnect Base actuator connections.
2.Reconnect Back actuator connections.

Preparation for Motor Resistance Test
1.Disconnect power to the chair.
2.Disconnect Base actuator from J2 on PC Board.
3.Set multimeter to Ohms to check resistance.
Perform Motor Resistance Test
Using a multimeter, place meter probes on actuator wires.

Do not to move chair past limit switches or equipment could be damaged.
Preparation for Base Function Motor Control PC Board Test
1.Disconnect power to the chair.
2.Disconnect Back actuator connection J1.
3.Move Base wire connection J2 to Back PC Board connection J1.
4.Connect power to chair.
Perform the Base Function Motor Control PC Board Test
1.Using the hand / foot control, press and hold Back Up button briefly.
2.Using the hand / foot control, press and hold Back Down button briefly. Did Base move Up and Down? If yes, replace PC Board. If no, Refer to: Base Function Components above.
Reconnecting Actuator Connections
1.Reconnect Base actuator connections.
2.Reconnect Back actuator connections.
